Spring term 1

Welcome to Beech Class Blog.
Please check back every Friday to see what we have been up to!
February 6th - 9th
Another super week in Beech! The children have been working so hard! They all wrote fantastic formal letters from Florence Nightingale asking for hospital supplies. They have been working on number bonds to 20 and problem solving with money. In science we looked at similarities and difference between ourselves and others and had a go at painting some rather fabulous self portraits. We even managed to earn the last piece of Lego for our class reward and so today was treat day where they snuggled down with a teddy to watch The Lion King.
Well done Beech class! We are so proud of you. Have a lovely half term!

January 30th - February 3rd
Another fun packed week in Beech class! In Design & Technology we created our own smoothie recipe ready to make at the weekend as part of our home learning task. We have been learning how to write a formal letter in English, from Florence Nightingale, asking for vital supplies in order to clean up Scutari Hospital. In RE we used Van Gogh's Starry night painting as a stimulus to create our own starry nights - linked to Abraham and the stars. In science we have been exploring our five senses and in PE we have had great fun practising different jumps off the apparatus.  I'm off to have a little lie down!
January 23rd-27th

Wow what a busy week we have had in Beech class! It has been action packed! On Tuesday we were treated by M&M Productions to a performance of Beauty and the Beast. This was kindly paid for by the School Association. The children absolutely loved it and roared with laughter particularly when Mrs Beale and Mrs Middleton were picked to come up and dance!

In the afternoon, as part of our Design & Technology smoothie topic, we had fun investigating different ingredients for smoothie making. We tried one with carrots, pineapple and mango. Another with spinach, banana, grapes and apple and the third smoothie with cucumber, banana and strawberry. We then had to decide which one we liked the most. We were very impressed with Beech class for being brave and giving it a try despite not knowing whether they would like it or not!

On Friday we had fun with money and set up shops in the classroom. Some were shopkeepers and some were shoppers. I think the shoppers did very well!
January 16th - 20th

This week Beech class worked really hard on creating fact files on Florence Nightingale. They did such a fantastic job that we awarded the whole class a 'Conscientious Cracking Caterpillar' for all of their amazing efforts! Well done Beech class! You are all superstars!
January 9th - 13th

This week we began learning about Florence Nightingale. We wrote down some facts from the information we had read/watched and added them to our learning wall. We finished off our 'I wish' pictures and in Design and Technology we worked in small groups to decide what was a fruit and what was a vegetable. We were very surprised by the results!
January 2nd - 6th
Wow! What a fantastic first week back! The children in Beech have come back to school 'ready to learn' and are super focused. We have been sorting 3D shapes by their properties, we made wishes for the future and, after spending time talking about what makes us all special and unique, we learnt how to make paper snowflakes. The children have been brilliant this week and we have had some excellent classroom discussion!
