Spring Term 1

 6th to 10th Feb 2023
Wow!!! We are half way through the year. No spellings set this week - you can check the Y1/2 and Y3/4 word lists for any words you need to learn. Keep going with your Lexia, most of you have completed your second or third level now. Keep using TTRockstars and Top Marks games for quick mental agility. The home learning grid continues next half term and there are some lovely activities you can do as a family on there.

When we come back we have our class assembly that week. If you have a roman costume you can wear it for our assembly.

There is a change to our PE days from then too. You now need to be in PE kit on Mondays and Wednesdays. (Not Tuesdays).

Have a great half term. See you Monday 20th Feb.
 30th Jan to 3rd Feb 2023
This has been a very busy week. On Tuesday all the Year threes enjoyed a visit to the Dorset County Museum and a tour of The Roman Town House. At the museum we learnt about the role of an archaeologist by carrying out a dig. We had to be very careful and note exactly where each artefact was found. We were able to see many real Roman mosaics and even walk on some and sit on them. We looked carefully at the patterns and how they were made using small tesserae. We dressed up as different people in Roman society from slaves to the Emperor.

We were shown around some of the exhibits in the museum and travelled in time from dinosaur footprints through the stone age, bronze age and iron ages as well as Roman times. We left our own impression on a giant pin board too.

At the Town House we were able to imagine what the house might of been like. We could go into the different rooms and think about what they might of been used for. We learnt that the family who lived there were warm and toasty in the cold times as they had under floor heating and wall heating. We did feel sorry for the slave who had to spend their time keeping the fire going.

On Thursday 25 children (9 from Linden Class) took part in the Rugby Festival with other local schools. The staff who accompanied they were proud of them and the pupils did well and showed good sporting skills.
 23rd to 27th January 2023
This week we all enjoyed the visit from M&M Productions who brought the story of Beauty and the Beast to life for us with their excellent acting skills.
 Week  16th to 20th January 2023
This week Linden have been exploring magnets as part of their science learning about forces.
 Week 9th to 13th January 2023

This week Linden have been enjoying Uni Hoc and gymnastics in PE. They have learnt how to tuck, star into a pencil pose and perform a pencil role with control and poise. We have been researching more about the Romans too.
We were very happy to be greeted by all the children in Linden Class who have made coming back to work such a pleasure. As you know this term we have a historical topic about life in Roman times. This week we have started to learn about Roman entertainment and chariot racing in particular. ask your child what a circus is and if they can tell you anything else about it. We are starting to look at Roman art, focusing on mosaics. We look forward to finding out much more!
Mrs Kirby and I hope you have enjoyed your holiday time and gathered with family and friends. We wish you all the best for 2023.

This term we look forward to finding out about life in Roman times and we will be visiting Dorchester Museum and the Roman Town House later in the term.

Please look here regularly to see what we have been up to.
We recently held a class election where we voted for pupils who we thought would represent our class well on the School Council.

The successful pupils are Igor  and Poppy G. Well done to both of you.
