Newsletter 3 – 2014-15 Thursday 13 November
We hope you had an enjoyable half term, although it seems a long time ago with our preparations well underway for the rest of this term and Christmas. This term we have two Students from the University of Winchester working with us in Linden Class. Their names are Allison Bassendale and Helen Collison, and we are pleased to welcome them to St Mary’s. I am also pleased to welcome Rachel Sayer and Joanne Pearce our two new lunchtime supervisors.
The School Association play an important part in the life of our school and one that we cannot do without. Apart from all the events for parents/carers and the children, they support school events such as the Book Fair this week. This term we have had a new Committee and we also welcome a new Chair, Michael Tucker. I would like to thank Hannah Richardson and Caroline Elliman, for their commitment and hard work. Our thanks go to them all. Their most recent funding, has been for our new Jigsaw programme which I’m sure some of you will have attended the termly assemblies for.
This week is Book Week, with lots of different activities to celebrate children’s love and enjoyment of reading. Thank you for all the lovely photographs of children and families reading, sometimes in unusual places and with unusual family members! These are displayed in the corridor along from the office, so please do come and have a look.
This morning we marked the Centenary of Remembrance day with a Service in school. There was singing, poetry and lots of Poppies, which were then laid at the memorial by the School Council. It was a memorable moment for all involved and thank you to those of you who came to support.
